Work Related Learning

Work-related Learning (WRL) and Enterprise Education are now part of the school curriculum and schools must now give pupils opportunities

  • to learn for work by developing relevant skills
  • to learn through work, as a result of direct and indirect experiences of the workplace
  • to learn about work, including the local labour market and the rights and responsibilities of employees

As part of this provision schools are expected to provide students with about five days’ worth of Enterprise Education to develop the following skills and abilities:

  • Enterprise capability — including skills and qualities such as innovation, creativity, risk-management, a 'can-do' attitude and the drive to make ideas happen
  • Financial capability - the ability to manage one's own finances and to become questioning and informed consumers of financial services
  • Business and economic understanding - the ability to understand the business context and make informed choices between alternative uses of scarce resources.

Inspire has developed a range of programmes and services, including Preparation for Work courses and activities, a variety of Enterprise Workshops which can be delivered to whole year groups, Work Experience, Workplace Visits and World of Work Visitors, to help schools meet the work-related learning requirements. We have also formed a partnership with youth development charity, FOCUS, to deliver their social enterprise programme, the Challenge Programme.

Inspire also provides training, advice and support to schools in developing their WRL delivery plans, policies and management systems.
